John is originally from the rural dairy farm areas of Upstate New York where he graduated from Schuylerville High School, near Saratoga Springs.  He went on to obtain an Associate’s Degree at the State University of NY at Canton and then a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Plattsburgh State University.  

Upon graduation from college, John joins the New York State Police where he worked his way up through the ranks and served as a Trooper, BCI Investigator, Lieutenant BCI, and Captain BCI.  John is an avid hunter and would spend many vacations chasing whitetail deer and turkeys across the Midwest, falling in love with Southern Iowa.  John retired in June 2017 after nearly 27 years of service with the NY State Police and he and his wife, Maribeth moved to Exline, Iowa, where they had recently purchased a home and then built a new home.   

John worked part-time for the Marion County Sheriff’s Department for a couple years and also ran a food plot planting business.
